Skeltons Lane

London Borough of Waltham Forest

Commissioned and supported by the local authority and provided in concert with MOH Design, this project was designed to replace a long-lost adventure playground in Skeltons Lane public park.

The scheme was initially unpopular with local people, who were concerned that a new playground would attract vandalism and gangs. Council officers and the police argued that the playground in reality would increase the number of children in the area and decrease anti-social behaviour, which is exactly what happened.

The space can accommodate up to 400 children at any one time and has become a popular local picnic site. It truly is a great place to hang out on a sunny day and triumphed in the Local Government News Street Design Awards 2009 Children’s Play category.
