Woolwich Adventure Playground
London Borough of Greenwich
Designed by APES in close consultation with council officers, children and staff, this entire site was rebuilt as its existing structures were in a terrible state of disrepair. The key features include a very long zip-line (approximately 50m), plus a double-decker bus with scramble nets, a slide and a fireman’s pole inside. We also provided a slice of British history through the installation of Little Apple, a former battleship’s tender (a boat that brought goods to and from ships) involved in the D-Day landings. After the Second World War she was renamed Little Apple and converted into a cruising yacht licensed by Greenwich Yacht Club. When she was no longer seaworthy, she was donated by Andy Pledger of Greenwich Yacht Club to the playground.
